The tide is high and the weather isn’t the best but it could be worse. As I walk along the path on the upper section of the beach, I am looking for any possible changes to the beach since I have begun observing a couple weeks ago. Looking around nothing stands out to me. It is amazing how what seems like a long period of time is nothing to nature. Sitting on one of the benches I looked around at the beach as a whole. It is round or crescent shaped. The beach itself hugs the cliffs that line most of the sections of the beach. The only section of the beach that isn’t lined by huge cliffs is the ravine that the road is now located in. Of course, that ravine was carved out by a river but today it isn’t a river, it is just a little creek. Looking at that creek it is hard to believe that it was able to carve out the huge ravine that is here now.
Time is a weird concept when it comes to nature and geology (or oceanography). My head is now starting to hurt from trying to rap my mind around who this beach might have formed and over what period of time this occurred. Not to mention thinking about what this beach will look like in 50 years, in 100 years, and in 1,000 years.
